“Remember no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

This quote by our former first lady is right on. So many times people tell me they’ve been told “You’re not good enough.” or “They are better at this than you are.” or “They told me this would never work for me.”. Have you ever had someone say this to you or overheard someone say it to another person?

Here’s an example:

You know what always happens when you start a new business. You always have tons of energy. Then, at some point, you lose your focus and your drive. The business fails because you start looking for the next better opportunity.

You or the person this comment was directed at were being programmed by the person talking to them. Any time someone uses the word “you”, your mind views it as programming your brain. Many times this is unintentional as it is the way many people speak when making generalized statements. Other times it may be the entire purpose.

What you want to be aware of is when you hear the word ‘you’ being said by someone speaking to you, think if this applies to you specifically. If it does and you are OK with what is being said, then allow it into your mind. If what is being said is not something you want embedded as part of your mindset, make sure to deflect this statement.

Why do I offer this as the action step? Your mind is a computer. It takes in all information and applies it. This means unless you decide whether the information is something you want to have as part of your mindset, it is used like you have consented to its use just like a computer program does with the information entered into it.

How do you stop the programming which is ineffective to you? One of the actions I take is simple. When I’m listening to someone talk and they say the word ‘you’ which is a programming word, I say in my head, “They mean them.”. This keeps the statement from being internalized and used by your mind.

This reframe is the perfect way to control what your mind is being programmed with throughout your day. It means you will have to consent to any thought being true before it affects you. This means you now decide what your mind uses and what is throws away as garbage.

Powerful, right. One more way to help you create the life of your dreams!

“I am empowered to be me.” – Paul Finck

Do you act like you at all times or are there times you act differently because you think you should?

One of the comments I get so often is I’m very real. This usually comes from people after they get to spend some time with me in both a social and training/business setting. They often admit they thought part of my persona had to be a “stage” me acting differently in front of a group than with those I know closest. This used to be true until a few years ago… and I didn’t even realize it!

When I started speaking more on stage quite a few years ago, I had one of my colleagues ask me why I changed into a drill instructor looking to tell the audience what they needed to do to make a change in their life. This colleague knew me personally outside of this event and saw the big difference when I was on stage. I never realized there was such a big difference.

This feedback gave me the opportunity to consciously make a choice on whether I wanted to be a stage persona and then be the regular me everyone knew when I was off stage or do something different than what I was currently doing. I had thought I needed to be more the drill instructor type on stage to be effective. At that point I empowered myself to be me at all times.

I changed what I did from that point forward. I changed my presentation and empowered myself to just be me at all times. With the permission I had given myself to just be me at all times an unexpected thing happened – even more people have been drawn to me. This comes from the fact when people see you are congruent at all times, they feel comfortable with you, they want to be around you and they trust you.

It also made my coaching more effective for my students because it attracted people who liked me and wanted what I had. They felt a draw to me and were willing to take the action steps necessary to create the life they wanted.

The decision to empower myself and let others see the real me is one of those defining moments in life. The decision of allowing myself to be me at all times is one of the reasons my business has taken off and the opportunities keep coming.

I knew I wanted to share it with you in case you are doing the same thing – being one person with those you are close to and another in front of everyone else. Be congruent in who you are at all times. Empower yourself to be you. You will find the people you really want in your life. And the results which come from it are amazing!

Do It Different!

The results that you are achieving are a direct reflection of the image of yourself you are holding. Improve the image and the improvement will automatically be reflected in your results.” – Sandra Gallagher

How do you view yourself?  Honestly, think about the thoughts which run through your head about you on an hourly, daily or weekly basis.  Are they empowering and building you up… or are they negative?

The image you have of yourself is the foundation for everything you do in life.  When your thoughts are positive, you build a strong foundation for your life.  This strong foundation allows you to build a great structure to create the results you want.

Creating your strong foundation can be accomplished through Dynamic Daily Declarations.  These are written statements spoken out loud about the way you see yourself or the way you are moving toward becoming.  These should always be positive in tone and focused on becoming the ideal you.

These thoughts and spoken words program your mind in how you view yourself.  When you tell your mind you are a particular way, your mind will make sure your actions taken are in alignment with this programming.  Just like a computer, good information in (Dynamic Daily Declarations), good information out (results).

Write a list of your declarations today.  Choose them to powerfully.  They are the thoughts, your foundation, which your future results are built on.

Once written out, speak them out loud at least twice per day – when you get up in the morning to set your intention for the day and before you go to bed to allow these thoughts to grow overnight in your brain.  To turbo-charge your results, add in multiple times throughout the day when you speak these out loud also.

Continue to build your strong foundation to achieve the fantastic life you want.  You will be happy you put the effort into this.  Time to get to work now on shoring up your foundation!

“Live life as if everything is rigged in your favor.” – Rumi

How do you view the circumstances which appear in your life daily?  Do they propel you forward or slow you down?  I wake up every morning knowing the universe is going to send me opportunities all day long.  It is up to me to choose what I do with those opportunities.

Believing everything which appears in my life is something which is going to help me grow into my full capabilities excites me.  Sometimes, these are challenges.  Other times, these are complete gifts.  Either way, I embrace both as the next step in my growth to reach my potential.  This belief creates energy in me all day long.

Are you ready to wake up each day knowing life is all set up to help you move forward?  Would believing all the cards are stacked in your favor help you create more in your business and life each day?   The choice is yours.  I know I live a blessed life where everything happens for a reason and it serves me.  Are you ready to join me?

“Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” – Theodore Roosevelt

Do you believe you can in your life… or do you fall into thinking you can’t at times?  Think back for a minute on which place your mind typically goes when presented with a challenge.  For every time you thought you were unable to do something, what usually happens?  If you’re like most, the result is the exact same as what you thought was going to happen.

Now look at times where you thought you could do something.  Did you normally find a way to make it happen?  Most people do most of the time.

This is the power of the mind on your results.  I go into every situation thinking I can even when I have no idea how I am going to accomplish it.  I then ask myself the key question to give myself the opportunity to succeed:

“How can I do _________?”

The reason this is the key question is it starts my mind working on finding possible solutions to whatever my challenge is at the time.  Since it is an open-ended question, my mind will constantly keep searching like the computer it is until it finds an answer.

Do you think this a powerful way to take on any challenge?  You see how it will help produce results?  Are you ready to implement this into your life today to take on the  ‘I Can Attitude’ which will help you succeed as an entrepreneur?

Approach every challenge by knowing you can solve it.  With this mindset and the key question from above, you are well on your way to doing just that.

You make choices every day of your life. There is no such thing as a good or bad decision. There are simply decisions that are either effective or ineffective. They either move you towards or move you away from your principle targets.

The most important influence is how you came to make your choice.

What defines an ineffective decision is not a resulting failure, it is the failure to recognize the effect of one’s own actions.

Say you have a weight challenge and dinner time rolls around. You decide a delicious deluxe cheeseburger is too appetizing to pass up.

Is this an ineffective decision? Not necessarily.

The fact of the matter is that people neglect the extra calories taken in from the cheeseburger. If you’re hungry, on the go, or truly crave that cheeseburger, go ahead, eat it! However, keeping the consequence (i.e. the calorie count) in mind will lessen those trips to McDonalds.

So often people walk around with blinders on. They make their decisions neglecting possible outcomes. They have a constant disregard for the effects of their decisions, on their lives and the lives of those around them. They are then left with a lifetime of ineffective decisions that lead them down a path that they had never intended. They blame the world instead of taking charge of it.

Perhaps you fall into this category. Perhaps you neglect the power you have over your own destiny. Now, there’s no need to sit down and make a pros and cons list of every single option. Simply take off your blinders and begin to make your own conscious decisions.

Since the root of most mistakes lie in senseless decisions, you will find yourself making fewer and fewer mistakes once you begin making your choices consciously.

The ineffective decisions are the ones you don’t make or the ones you make negligently.

So often people find themselves in undesirable situations and neglect how they got their in the first place. They look for scapegoat after scapegoat until they eventually realize that they are the reason that they are where they are.

When you take charge of the world around you, take charge of the decisions you make, take charge of the product of your decisions, you’ll find that life is all about the choices you make. It is the decisions made by you, and you alone, which predict your present and your future.

This is the 4th post in this series.  If you have missed any of the recent emails, you can catch up on this series on my blog here.

Today I want to focus on the second type of person at my events:

Those of you who have all the knowledge to begin the next step up in your life, yet still have taken little to no action on the knowledge.

Have you said or thought any of these?

  1. I’m almost ready to start my business.  I just need a little more information on ____________.
  2. What happens if I make a mistake or fail?
  3. My product is almost finished or ready to market.  I just have a few adjustments to make before starting.
  4. What if I don’t know what to do next?
  5. I’m ready to start, but something always seems to pop up and stops me from getting started.

Any of these sound familiar?

Thought they might.

Let’s run through these mindset obstacles and limiting beliefs to get you moving on your journey to success now.

Starting with #1 above – I’m almost ready to start my business.  I just need a little more information on ____________. This one is a key indicator you are an analysis paralysis victim.  You have heard me tell you the most successful CEO’s in the country make decisions based on only 30% of the available information.

In today’s rapidly evolving world, there will never be a point when you have every bit of information on a topic.  Even when you do think you have it all, someone else has already done it differently.  It’s the information age.  The information continues to come in all the time.

One of the most powerful training pieces I do at my Mindset Mastery Experience event focuses on making quick decisions and how much more you will accomplish over your entire lifetime taking action versus gathering tons of information.

Now the reason #1 can be such a big obstacle is because there can be a deeper mindset obstacle like #2 – What happens if I make a mistake or fail?
This comes directly from what we are taught as children by our parents and teachers – the need to always be right.  It’s how we are judged with grades in school.  One of the first pieces I learned when I started studying successful people is they all make mistakes.  It’s part of the process.
To succeed, you have to “fail” at some point.  It’s how you internalize this failure which creates the limiting belief.  Successful people look at the available data after a failure and make a decision.  Either they adjust what they are doing to change the result or they make the decision to move on to the next opportunity.
Look at it this way, what is the worst thing that could happen with your decision? Successful people look at this and decide if they can live with the consequences.  When I am good with either consequence, I move forward accepting the fact I might fail in my result.
Remember, Thomas Edison failed over 1000+ times when inventing the light bulb.  He viewed it as knowing multiple ways not to invent the electric light.  How can you reframe the results you may not like?

Moving on to #3 – My product or business is almost finished or ready to market. I just have a few adjustments to make before starting.

This statement is a dangerous one to make and follow since you are looking for everything to be perfect before putting it out there.  Why is this dangerous? More than likely after receiving market feedback you will be adjusting it again anyway.  At this point you are delaying the needed feedback.

If Bill Gates and Microsoft had followed this, we would still be waiting for Windows as an operating system.  He put a good product out and has continued to upgrade it.  And guess what.  He makes billions more each time he makes these changes.  You are missing out on the additional opportunity while you perfect your product or service.

And have you ever thought this after seeing a product or service – Darn it!  I had the same idea months/years ago. The first to market many times becomes the leader because of being first… whether the initial product was perfect or not.

If you have said statement #3 to yourself, I guarantee you have stopped your own opportunities for success from emerging.  When are you ready to realize the success you deserve?

Action always beats planning when it comes to revealing results.

For many with challenge #3, I have found the true base challenge is not wanting to perfect the product or service, it’s in mindset challenge #4 – What if I don’t know what to do next?

Instead of taking the next step, you use the fact you just need to make a few more changes as the excuse to not move forward.  You are comfortable tweaking the product or service so you stay stuck there instead of figuring out what’s next.

This not knowing what to do next can be a paralyzing feeling, right?  You can see the goal.  You just don’t know the first or next step to take to get there because there seem to be so many different options.

  • Which one will get me there fastest or is “THE” one to do now?
  • How can I know the action I choose is the right next step?

For many, this is alleviated with working with a mentor.  When you choose the right mentor, you are able to follow their path with each step laid out as “THE” next step.

Isn’t it much easier to follow the path already worn through the brush than to beat your own path down?  You are able to see what is next instead of guessing there is no cliff one step ahead you are unable to see.

I have found many of my students have enough information to create the success they want in their lives.  It’s putting it all together in a focused, logical process and taking the action which holds them back.

This is exactly what I train on at my Mindset Mastery Experience coming up in July.  At this 3-day event, I focus and guide you on the next steps for you to achieve the success you want.

Grab your FREE tickets to this training while they are still available.

The final mindset challenge for this second type of person – I’m ready to start, but something always seems to pop up and stops me from getting started. Now at times, this can happen to anyone.  How often does it happen to you?

This is another reason why so many people come to work with me.  We all have activities which can cause us to get off track.  Whether its the kids, the spouse, the family, friends, etc., etc.  The distractions are many.  When your “Why” is strong enough, you are able to refocus faster and find solutions to any challenge.

Now when it comes to talking about your why, it needs to be something you feel a deep emotion inside of you when you think or talk about it.  If you don’t feel it, you must keep on looking deeper.  This is the drive which propels you when distractions arise.  Your Why has to be stronger than the distraction!

A strong why carries you forward when you have distractions… or a lack of motivation… or you feel tired.  It brings to mind the question, “Is this the highest and best use of your time?” This question coupled with your strong why will help you stay on track at all times.

My why is the driving force behind all I do and the reason I train you and all my other students.

Look for my next post this week to discuss the next set of limiting beliefs holding you back from success.

Are you attempting to figure out why you have not been as successful as you had hoped and dreamed?

Have you followed the same path taught to you in school or by your family – go to school, get good grades, get a good job and work hard for your employer only to see it not creating the success, the wealth, and the happiness promised you?
Do you know you want a different result and just have no idea what to do or where to turn to get this different result… the happiness and satisfaction promised as your American Dream?

Then you are part of my first type of students I am discussing in today’s post:

Those who don’t know what to do to change your results in your life.

Now if this type isn’t you and you still know you want to learn about what’s holding you back from your success, stay tuned for the next emails this week or grab this FREE training now to figure out your limiting beliefs.

We agreed in the previous posts the challenge all 3 types of people face in many cases boils down to one foundational piece – mindset!

Knowing this, do any of these statements sound like one you have or would say?

  1. If I work harder, the happiness and wealth will come.
  2. I’m following the same path my parents did to create a good life for myself.
  3. I need to have a secure job with a steady paycheck and benefits to take care of myself and my family.
  4. It takes money to make money.
  5. I don’t know any different way to create something different for myself.

Any of these sound familiar?

Each of them individually, or even worse grouped together, will hold you back in reaching your dream life.  Are you now ready to create a change in your life?

Let’s break down some of these limiting beliefs and mindsets.

Starting with #1 above – If I work harder, the happiness and wealth will come.  This mindset is one of keeping on doing the same thing – even working harder at it – and expecting a different result.  You know what this is a definition for… insanity.  If you work harder at something which is giving you a result you don’t want, you will get more of what you don’t want.

Many in our society learn to work hard and are taught if you are not successful, you must work harder.  You see the challenge here, right?  If the process is faulty, working harder at it produces only more of the same results.

You did say you are looking for something different, correct?  Sounds like it’s time to do something different then.

#1 usually ties right in with #2 – I’m following the same path as my parents to create a good life. Go to school.  Get a good job.  Work hard. This is learned from our parents and our school system.  It is what they were taught by their parents and school systems.  They don’t know anything else.  If they don’t know a different way, how can they teach you a different way?

The question to ask yourself with #2 is, “Do you want the lifestyle your parents have now?” If you answer yes, keep doing what they do.  If not, you need different information to achieve different results. It’s hard to learn how to be wealthy, successful and happy from mentors who are not!

Answer this – would you go to a Spanish tutor to learn how to do Algebra?  They might guess right and help you.  Wouldn’t you feel better working with a math tutor who knows how to show you the way to master math?  Then why would you follow the path of someone who does not have what you want?

The next mindset challenge, #3, is something learned from the Industrial Age: Work for a good company for a steady paycheck and benefits to create a secure life for yourself and your family.

The company will take care of you while you work.  They will keep bumping up your income and promote you.  You will earn enough while you are working to take care of yourself through a retirement plan after they give you the gold watch at your retirement party.

How often have you heard or even said a variation of this?  Again, this comes down to the beliefs you have been taught over the years from your teachers and parents.  It’s what they do and what they did.  Do you want what they have now?

How secure is it to put your future, and your family’s well-being, in someone else’s hands whose #1 priority is taking care of themselves and their family?  Who is making you and your family their #1 priority then?  Maybe not quite as secure as you had thought, huh?

And this is a different time requiring different processes.  We are in the Information Age now.  Following Industrial Age thinking will not produce Industrial Age results any longer… unless you own the industry!

I have your attention now.  You want something different for yourself and your family, but doesn’t it take money to make moneyThis is mindset challenge #4.

I used to think this way also.  What I have learned in the last 27+ years as an entrepreneur, there are many ways to grab hold of the resources you may want or need to create your change.

When you work with me, I show you exactly how to create the future you want using leverage.  Leverage of time, money and knowledge.  Possessing any 2 you can create leverage to acquire the 3rd.  This is one of the most mind-expanding topics you ever learn.

This brings us to the final mindset challenge – I don’t know any different way to create the change I want for myself. This has proven to be the stumbling block of the masses.  It holds so many back from ever creating a new reality for themselves.

Many people are so used to being self-reliant or using traditional means of education to achieve success.  Realize, every successful person has found a mentor to teach them how to get where they want to go.

One question I get asked frequently about this is, “How do I find the right mentor for myself?”

My answer is simple.  Find the person who has exactly what you envision as the life you want.  Then do whatever it takes to work with them to learn how to do this for yourself.

Would you like to learn even more about creating the success and happiness you truly desire?

Do you think learning from an expert who has created this already in their life would be helpful for you to get there quickly too?

Just returned home from the event I was speaking and coaching at this past weekend in just enough time to get this second post out to you in this series of 6.  If you missed the first one, just click here to see it and fill in the gaps.

As a refresher of our conversation from this weekend, I was talking about the 3 distinct types of people I see at each event and the challenges they experience in creating the success they desire.

These 3 types are:

1.  Those who don’t know what to do to change your results in your life. You know you want something different and either just don’t know what it is or how to get there.

2.  Those who have all the knowledge to achieve a new phase in your life, yet still have taken little to no action on the knowledge. This is the analysis paralysis group as I like to call them.

3.  Those who know what to do, have done it, and still feel like there is more to life than what they have now. This is the group many others view as successful even while they feel there is so much more they want.

Which one of these 3 best describes you and where you are now in your pursuit of happiness in your life?

We agreed the challenge each of the 3 types of people face in many cases boil down to one foundational piece – mindset!

Now where did your mindset or your beliefs come from?

For each one of us, it has come from compiling experiences and knowledge from:
  • parents
  • relatives
  • teachers
  • friends
  • care givers
  • coaches/mentors
  • clergy
  • the news – whether this be TV, radio, print or the internet
  • advertising
  • books
  • videos
  • movies
  • TV shows
  • internet
  • social media

This is just a sampling of places which have created the mindset you currently have.  You see how varied this list is.
Some may even happen whether you are aware of them or not. A simple example is the TV ad which played as you were talking on the phone and all the sudden you are hungry for pizza.  See how this can happen?

How much interaction have you had with all of these influencers and more over your lifetime?  I know, it’s huge to think about.

And it’s not even just when you are awake!!

Have you ever fallen asleep with the television on… or when others were still awake and conversing about anything?  Heck my grandparents used to turn the heat up in the car just to get the kids to fall asleep on winter evenings.

These times when you are falling asleep or are asleep are when your mind is most impressionable.  This is when your conscious mind shuts off and your subconscious mind really gets to assimilate information quickly and deeply.

Who ever thought falling asleep to the Late Show and waking up with an infomercial playing really mattered, right?

You are bombarded all day long throughout your life with messages looking to shape your beliefs and your mindset.

Do you think some faulty information may get in occasionally whether you want it to or not?  If you are sleeping, you have very limited control as to what you are hearing which is programming your computer – your mind – at this particular moment.

The biggest challenge comes in not knowing what these unwanted mindsets are or even if they are present.  Yet they are great at forming limiting beliefs which hold each of us back from attaining our full potential.

Finding the mindset challenges and creating new beliefs to replace them is one of the most powerful ways I help my students.  It helps both on a business level and on a personal level.  Are you now ready for this change in your life?

Each of the 3 types of attendees I see at my events has their own set of limiting beliefs caused from their current mindset.  Each has different beliefs which hold them back from achieving all which is possible.  What is holding you back right now?

In my next post, we will begin breaking down the hidden ways your mind can play games with you holding you back from the goals you have for yourself.  I will break down each of the 3 different types above to shatter some of the common glass walls and ceilings you have now holding you back.

Look for the next post over the weekend.

I was working with attendees at an event this weekend and it struck me.  No, not an attendee… although I have been known to push hard to help others achieve their potential success.  It is what a great coach or mentor does when it’s needed.

What struck me was the people I keep seeing at my events and working with fit into 3 distinct types… yet each have many of the same challenges to achieve the success they each truly want.

These 3 types are:

1.  Those of you who don’t know what to do to change your results in your life. You know you want something different and either just don’t know what it is or how to get there.

This is you when you realize you are unhappy or unfulfilled with your life after leading it according to what most people have learned from their parents, friends, teachers, etc.

The plan you follow may sound something like go to school, study hard, get a good job, work hard and you will become rich.  Sound familiar?

And you have realized this plan is not working out like you were promised.  Each year you seem to get further away from the dream.

Don’t worry.  I’m here to change this for you.

2.  Those of you who have all the knowledge to achieve a new phase in your life, yet still have taken little to no action on the knowledge. This is the analysis paralysis group as I like to call them.

This type keeps gathering information and training so that when you do move, all actions will be done correctly.  If you are here, you learned exactly what our school system teaches, make sure you get the correct information and study hard to make sure you don’t fail.  No one wants to fail “the test” in their life – whether this is a new business idea being put into action, an investment, or any decision to do something new and different.

I know you will keep reading since I know you want all the information to make the right decision.  I’m here to ensure you get where you want successfully too.

3.  Those of you who know what to do, have done it, and still feel like there is more to life than what they have now. This is the group many others view as successful even while they feel there is so much more they want.

If this is you, your business may be doing well.  You own your own business, are making money, have what appears to be a great life… all the while thinking, I thought there would be more satisfaction to this or is this as good as it gets?

I have great news for you in this group too.  You may be closer to your ultimate dream than you think.

Which one of these 3 best describes you and where you are now in your pursuit of happiness in your life?

What I have found is the challenges each of the 3 types of people face in many cases boil down to one foundational piece – mindset!

Now I know you may be thinking, what do you mean my mindset is my challenge, Paul?  How does mindset have anything to do with me and where I am at right now in my life?  I have other challenges which are much more important to knock out first.

Here is what I will let you in on which I have learned by working with thousands of students over the past 10 years to release us.  Each and every one of us has limiting beliefs which hold us where we are now in our lives. Many times, you have no idea what these are or how to smash them to release yourself to explosive growth and happiness.

Let me give you an example.  When you learned how to ride a bicycle, did you just go out and hop on it and start riding like you do now?  Of course not.

Your parents would run behind the bike holding on to the seat until you got the hang of balancing, pedaling, steering and focusing on what you were doing.  At some point, they would let go of the bike to let you do it yourself.

Well, if you’re parents were like mine, they told you the first couple times they let go of the bike.  As soon as they told me they were letting go, I started to lose my balance and stopped out of fear of falling since I had already experienced that result… not fun.  Are you with me so far?

After a few times of telling me and my falling, my father finally just let my bicycle go without telling me he was going to do it.  I kept right on pedaling down the street another 25 feet before realizing he wasn’t holding me up.

What changed for me in learning to ride a bike?  One thing only – the limiting belief where I needed my father to hold me up to ride my bike.  I did it just fine when I thought he was there.  When I knew he was gone, the limiting belief kicked in and I lost my balance.

My father proved how this belief was limiting by not telling me he was going to let me go… allowing me to succeed.  Nothing else had changed.  Just my belief he was there or not providing me the confidence to ride my bike.

Once I rode without him behind me, I realized I was able to ride a bike without assistance.  This changed my world.  Now I was able to ride all over my area without anyone else’s assistance.  It opened up a much wider world for me.

This is exactly how your limiting beliefs hold you back from the life you want to lead.  Throughout this short email series, I am going to show you what this looks like for each of the types above and how to conquer these mindset challenges.
